In the jungle of technical terms for linear technology, it is easy to lose track. That is why we have summarised all the important technical topics relating to our linear technology for you here. From the properties of our materials through to expertise from real-world experience and research. We also explain, for example, what the stick-slip effect is all about, or simply what a linear system is.
If you still have questions, please contact our linear technology expert, Michael Hornung, directly!
In our linear guide white papers, our experts in the field of linear guides share their insights from practical experience as well as long-term research and development results with you. The white papers cover various topics in the field of linear bearing technology.
drylin is a product range of lubrication-free linear plain bearings based on the principle of sliding instead of rolling. Tribologically optimised iglidur high-performance polymers are used as sliding surfaces. The drylin linear systems use dry operation and are maintenance-free. Linear guides are available on a rail or round shaft basis. Besides the freedom from maintenance and lubrication, the focus is on the ruggedness and insensitivity to influences such as dirt, water, chemicals, heat or impacts.
A linear system is a complex design that enables machine parts to move along a path in space. These movements, known as translations, form the basis for a wide variety of machines and systems. Linear systems from various manufacturers are equipped with recirculating ball guides or track roller guides, which enable precise movement with low friction.
The linear rail systems offered by igus achieve similarly good results in terms of precision and friction and are also characterised by being maintenance-free, lubrication-free, smooth-running and easy to install.
The stick-slip effect or adhesive sliding effect is the backsliding of solid bodies moving against each other. This phenomenon occurs when a body is moved whose static friction is significantly greater than the sliding friction.
More informationIn a hybrid linear bearing, a combination of plain and roller bearings work together: Integrated rollers achieve low drive forces, while the sliding effect of the plain bearings protects against lateral forces. This combination enables the absorption of forces caused by misuse:
1. Reduction of the coefficient of friction.
2. Reduction of the required drive force.
3. Function of the system without restricting the 2:1 rule.
