Using public transport is an important contribution to the protection of our environment. To make train trips more attractive for passengers, an intact rail network and working trains have to be the rule, not the exception. Here, durable components are required that fulfil high quality requirements, to which the fire protection standards EN 45545 or NFPA 130 belong. Our motion plastics meet these demands, and are furthermore lubrication-free, which minimises maintenance effort and costs. This factor is not insignificant if train trips are to be attractive in terms of price too.
The top three innovations for railway technology, briefly explained by our industry manager in less than two minutes. Also included: an igubal pillow block bearing in extra compact design.
▲ Tech up: 25% less wear, 30% longer service life due to thread asymmetry and 88% lower weight
▼ Cost down: 50.9% more cost-effective compared to metal lead screw nuts
Trying things out made easy: with the igus corner, you always have the most recent motion plastics suited to your individual industry sector at hand.
We will bring the display to you, assemble it upon request and fill the compartments with the products of your choice. Or you can set it up yourself. As a permanent exhibition or for a limited period of time.
The sample box contains iglidur bar stock, a dryspin lead screw, iglidur plain bearings, a self-adjusting igubal bearing, chainflex cables and an e-chain.
The sample box for goods transport contains different iglidur plain bearings, a self-adjusting igubal bearing, a chainflex thrust washer and iglidur bar stock.
The IdeasTrain is an initiative of Deutsche Bahn dedicated to tomorrow's passenger transport. One of the concepts developed here: an e-scooter lift for space-saving suspension and charging of the scooters during the train journey. The two-wheelers are hooked into a bracket and can be moved up and down electrically on a linear axis. This is where drylin linear systems and drives for lubrication-free operation come into play.
Developing compact passenger doors for new light rail vehicles on the Metro del Valles line in Barcelona is the job of Masats, a Spanish company. Engineers used igus chainflex control cables and e-chains in the door opening mechanisms. The special control cable design allows extremely small bend radii (just 20 millimetres). The cables are thus ideal for passenger doors that are among the most space-saving systems on the market.
For the metro in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Zweiweg International developed a two-way cleaning vehicle featuring especially flexible cleaning technology. Linear systems from our modular construction kit also contribute to this technology. The linear technology, which requires no lubrication or maintenance, is compact when retracted, but allows for a long extension that does not yield too much under the high water pressure. Since it is lubrication-free, dirt and dust do not affect its functionality.
Sliding steps must work in all weather and be safe, so that even passengers with prams or limited mobility can get on and off without assistance. Lubrication-free and thus maintenance-free dryspin high helix lead screws and nuts from igus are central components of an innovation from Knorr-Bremse GmbH, Division IFE. They are resistant to corrosion and media and ensure a long service life ‒ at significantly reduced costs.
All products are checked in the igus test laboratory, the largest in the industry, under real-life conditions with regard to wear and durability. This enables the precise determination of the service life of the products.
Upon request, igus carries out customer tests so as to check the use of the products under completely unique conditions.
